She went there with the intention of getting another scan before leaving for home. She was instead admitted for examinations that led to the discovery of osteomyelitis in her spine, which is an infection or swelling of the bones.
Smith added that she will never again take her mobility “for granted” after thinking back on her time spent in the hospital. She stated, “I hope I stick to them because I plan to live to be 107 when I can walk, jog, and do Pilates or ballet.”
